“Illegals have landed”, “Send the Army”,
Morning comes, tube, newspaper,
Headlines; the tip of this biased iceberg,
Titanic power changing Britain’s inner thoughts,

“Migrant workers flooding Britain” read the Daily Express succumbers.
Dehumanising a humanitarian issue.
Turkey hosts 3.7 million. And us? 127,000.
"WE ARE INUNDATED." Angela Merkel helping save a few of our Nationalist’s tears,

Why UK? You ask. Why us?
Family ties, language, no rights in other countries,
And the most saddening of all –
The teaching of colonies of this ‘incredible’ UK.

“I don’t care how many there are, they’re taking our jobs”
An interesting one when you look at the facts,
£25 billion contributed to the economy tied with entrepreneurial skillset,
Risk-taking across Europe being brought into the board room.
Innovation.

Causes; War, climate change, persecution,
Oppressors we love to hate, Assad,
But where’s the love for the oppressed?
Years of walking met with closed doors, minds and borders,

80% stay in their neighbouring countries,
Dreaming of a return to their safe home,
Don’t worry fascists, they don’t always want to come,
If they didn’t have to they wouldn’t,

Imagine. Tories turn war on us. Power hungry.
We flee.
Through Europe we walk; Serbia, Bulgaria, Croatia. Knock, knock?
No opening; the mirror is turned on us,

My time in Calais was one of emotions,
3 pounds of anger at the world with heaped tablespoons of motivation,
Priti Patel, a little note to you,
Stop this so called ‘criminal trade’ by offering safe and legal routes for asylum to be heard,
You are killing not saving.

‘We have to look after us first!’, ’We’re only an island!’
I’m not asking to home them all,
Fair hearing and safe asylum-seeking routes are what I am.
With an inch of empathy wouldn’t go a miss,

Boris Johnson agrees; Black Lives Matter,
Apparently, they only matter until a request arrives to be saved from persecution.
Asylum seekers on £37.75 a week, no work allowed,
How do you buy textbooks? Phone credit?
Isolating tactics worse than lockdown.

Put your feet in their torn and broken shoes,
“No one puts their child in a boat unless it is safer than the land.”
How were we not the ones born in these war-torn countries?
You feel compassion and empathy? There is much you can do

Firstly, stop catchy media sound bites clogging your mind,
Who wrote this? What’s their motivation?
News is tailored to what people want to hear,
Have uncomfortable conversations, power lies in those one to ones,

Change views. Advocate. Write letters.
Your local MP wants your vote,
Let them know it will be cast their way if you see change,
Ask them to talk in Parliament, to raise these issues with select committees,

If you have the power to change policy; do,
If you don’t, start small and work big,
Conversations, letters and education.
Change mindsets. Change policy.
